Bulk Waste Collection

In order to combat fly-tipping, SW9 offers a Bulk Waste Collection service to our residents living on Stockwell Park Estate and in our Street Properties.

We are making some changes to this service which we believe will be of benefit to both our residents and staff. Please see below a brief overview on the changes which will come into effect in July 2025.

  • Residents can request up to 5 items per collection. We offer residents two collections per year.
  • Please contact us at bulk@sw9.org.uk to book for a collection. If you contact us by telephone, your request will be redirected to the email address.
  • Please ensure you give us your full name and address, your preferred contact number and a list of items you wish to be collected.
  • You will be contacted within 10 working days, and we will aim to arrange a collection day within 72 hours of you being contacted. We will give you a 1-hour time slot (for example, between 1.30pm-2.30pm) and a confirmation email will be sent to you. This is subject to availability; we cannot guarantee same day collections.
  • We aim to complete all collections within the time slot agreed, but unexpected circumstances may prevent us from collecting. If we miss your collection, please email us at bulk@sw9.org.uk, or call 020 7326 3700, option 2 and we will arrange another time to collect your items.
  • If you won’t be home during the agreed collection time, please let us know by email at bulk@sw9.org.uk and we can arrange another time to collect your items. Please be advised that the new collection date may be a long time depending on demand.
  • Alternatively, you can contact Lambeth Council for their Bulk Waste Collection service. Please visit their website at www.wasteservice.lambeth.gov.uk/bulkywaste for further details.

Please be advised that fly tipping is a form of anti-social behaviour and is both unsightly and dangerous to children. As a criminal offence under Section 33 (6) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, we will report instances of fly tipping to the Police.

Below you can find FAQs about SW9's Bulk Waste Collection service:

  • What are the rules on SW9's Bulk Waste Collection service?

We will collect a maximum of 5 items per collection and offer two collections per year.  The items must be able to be moved/lifted by 2 operatives.  You will need to book another visit using the process outlined previously for any subsequent collections.  Recharges will be imposed.

Items for collection must be placed near the entry point of the property in time of the agreed time slot.

  • What do we collect?
    • Bicycles
    • Carpets.  These must be rolled and taped/tied shut.
    • White goods; a maximum of 2 per collection; fridge/freezers must be defrosted, empty and sealed/taped shut; ovens and washing machines must be empty and sealed/taped shut.
    • Black rubbish bags (5 will count as 1 item; must not be overloaded or ripped).
    • Cardboard boxes of assorted items; no larger than 1ft x 1ft x 1ft.
    • Mattresses; a maximum of 2 per collection.
    • Bedframes must be dismantled.
    • Televisions and small appliances.
    • Glass and mirrors; these must be wrapped.
    • Sheds; these must be dismantled.
    • Wardrobes; over 5ft must be dismantled.
    • Cupboards or chest of drawers must be emptied, taped or tied closed.
    • Furniture must be of a size and weight that 2 operatives can safely collect.
  • What don't we collect?

    We do not collect:

    • Building or construction waste.
    • Very large or heavy items that cannot be safely lifted by 2 operatives, i.e. pianos.
    • Greenhouses.
    • Clinical waste.
    • Hazardous waste.
    • Car parts.
    • Waterlogged items.

  • We will refuse collection of your Bulk Waste if:
    • Items are not ready to collect at the agreed time.
    • Moving items can potentially cause damage to the property.
    • Items cannot be safely moved by 2 operatives, or the operative deems the item too dangerous to collect.
    • Items cannot fit through the entry/exit point of the property (including communal stairwells).
    • Chest of drawers have items inside them and are not taped shut.
    • Wardrobes over 5ft tall are not dismantled.
    • Mattresses, furniture or any upholstery have bedbugs or other infestation.
    • Verbal abuse directed at operatives.
  • Who is SW9's Bulk Waste Collection service for?

The service is for SW9 Community Housing residents only, living on the Stockwell Park Estate and surrounding Street Properties.

  • Can I leave items outside my property?

If you live on the Stockwell Park Estate, we ask that you keep the items close to the entry/exit point of your property until we arrive to collect. Leaving items outside of the property will be considered fly tipping, which is deemed a fire hazard, and you may be fined.

If you live in one of our Street Properties and once a time slot has been confirmed, you can leave items outside, within the property boundary, next to where the bins are kept. Please avoid placing the items on the pavement. Only put the items you listed in your email outside; any items that were not listed will not be collected.

  • What if I don't have an email address?

Please call us 020 7326 3700, option 2 or visit us at the Housing Office. We will ask you to provide the requested information and will forward this to the email address bulk@sw9.org.uk, on your behalf.

  • What if I have an item which is not on the list or cannot be collected?

Please send an email to bulk@sw9.org.uk. We will let you know if our team will be able to collect your item or not once we have received your email.

  • What if I have more than 5 items for collection?

We can only collect up to 5 items per visit. You would need to book another appointment to collecting remaining items. We offer residents two collections per year.

You can also contact Lambeth Council to arrange Bulk Waste Collection through their service.  Please visit Lambeth's website at www.wasteservice.lambeth.gov.uk/bulkywaste for further details.
