Self-Neglect

This includes situations where an individual is declining support with care needs, hygiene, health, or environment, which has a significant impact on overall wellbeing.

Indicators/Signs:


• Very poor personal hygiene
• Unkempt appearance
• Lack of essential food, clothing, or accommodation
• Malnutrition and/or dehydration
• Living in squalid or unsanitary conditions
• Neglecting household maintenance
• Hoarding
• Collecting many animals in inappropriate conditions
• Non-compliance with care or health services
• Inability or unwillingness to take medication or treat illness or injury
