Building Futures Construction Programme

Are you unemployed?

Are you interested in a career in construction?

Take part in this fantastic opportunity!

Ixion and Wates Group are delivering a fully funded two week construction programme available to unemployed SW9 Community Housing residents.

The programme will take place in Westminster from Monday 5th June – Friday 16th June.

The Wates “Building Futures” opportunity is available to 19+ Job Seekers in receipt of state benefits. No previous experience or knowledge of the construction sector is required although candidates must show an enthusiasm and positive attitude towards pursuing a career in construction.

Learners will gain basic skills across a range of trades within construction e.g. joinery, painting/decorating, plumbing. They will gain the BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Construction, the Health and Safety in the Environment Award Level 1 and also their Green Labourer’s CSCS card – all funded by Ixion and Wates Group. Lunch will also be provided each day, along with uniform (boots, hat, jacket, gloves, glasses) for all learners, which you can keep.

Learners will be required to attend over the fortnight from 9am – 4pm.

Week one will be focused on gaining practical skills in a workshop environment in a number of trades.

Week two involves some classroom activities, preparation for the CSCS test, visits to local Wates sites to gain a valuable insight into what it is like to work in construction and interviews with employers - Wates and their supply chain. On average 55% of learners progress into employment after their course.

The deadline for applications is Friday 26th May 2017.
